Ramey Claret 2005 750ml

Ramey Blend – Other

Rated 88 – Fashioned from lots culled out from all of David Ramey’s Cabernet projects, the 2005 Claret is a stylish, delicious red that is meant to be consumed during its first 7-8 years of life. It offers up aromas of cherries, underbrush, black currants, and cedar. Evolved and medium-bodied with a silky finish, it will drink well for 5-7 years. – Robert Parker – Ramey Claret 2005 750ml -

Kreinbacher Oreg Tokek Old Vines 2006 750ml

Kreinbacher Blend – Other

New to the Michael Skurnik Wines portfolio as of 2008; Kreinbacher is located in Somlo, a tiny wine region approximately 100 km east of the Austrian Alps, on steep basalt volcanic slopes centered around an extinct volcano. Somlo produces excellent quality dry white wines that rival the more known Tokaj. Mainly native Hungary grapes are grown here: Juhfark (Sheep’s Tail), Harslevelu (Linden Leaf), Furmint and Olaszrizling (Welchsriesling). The wines are full-bodied and fiery with a salty pure mineral character, bright acidity and a rich texture. The estate was established in 2002 by Jozsef Kreinbacher. The vineyards are located in the prime section of the hill and are farmed organically. The wines are fermented and aged in 3-4 year old, 500 liter Hungarian oak barrels and bottle aged before released, as is the tradition in the region. These wines are produced in very small quantities! – Kreinbacher Oreg Tokek Old Vines 2006 750ml -

Gobelsburg Brut Reserve NV 750ml

Gobelsburg Blend – Other

I have enjoyed bamboozling my friends when I serve them this blind; they are certain I’d be serving them Champagne, me being me and all, and they wrack their brains trying to figure out varieties and sub-districts but they are sure the wine in their glass is Champagne, i.e., they don’t promptly conclude This can’t possibly be Champagne. In fact I think it’s the best non-Champagne fizz I’ve tasted, and wonderfully it is nothing like Champagne it’s 15% Riesling, 15% Pinot Noir and 70% Gruner Veltliner thank you very much. Riesling and GruVe derive from pre-harvests in the Grand Crus like Lamm and Gaisberg (!). The new disgorgement (2/08) is mostly 2004 with some 2003-2002 seems rounder and fruitier than last year’s, but it’s snappy with lots of GruVe raciness; more plush lees, leafier and it shows its sweetness less; even some batonnage aromas; articulate and lacy-Nicolas Chiquet could have made it. – Gobelsburg Brut Reserve NV 750ml -
